The Appalachian Judicial Circuit is located in central North Georgia and includes Fannin County, Gilmer County, and Pickens County. It was created in 1983 as a single judge circuit when the five county Blue Ridge Circuit was divided due to the demands of a rapidly increasing caseload. In 1988, the Georgia General Assembly added a second superior court judge position to the circuit.
